The Practice

The practice of working with only what we just get enables balancing that which is arising and that which is ceasing...

What you just get…

What we are bestowed with and what we have is in many ways a function of how we have been. Our past sensing and actions likely determine our present awareness, feelings and endowments. And if we were to subscribe to the view that this chain of being continues till we are free of it, we might be pressed to reevaluate our desire to ask for more. This is because with each moment we inhabit seeking something, we prolong and perpetuate the chain of cause and effect.

Having little is thus a blessing and not deprivation, and being content with little is the only true joy in our lives in which things incessantly arise and cease. When we aim to work with only what we just get, we can balance that which is arising with what is ceasing. Anything else, and this arising and ceasing continues to manifest, and we are never free.

In that way, it makes no sense to ask for anything other than what we just get because the arrival of whatever we can think of is simply succeeded by its passing.
